Quarrying creates jobs in areas where there are limited opportunities. There is a huge demand for the products of quarrying, such as high quality sand stone This is linked to the demand for new homes in the State of Queensland which we can support domestically. Quarrying provides income to local councils through taxation via Permits to extract sand and stone.

Differences between Mines and Quarries

There is a significant difference between mining and quarrying. Mining is the process of extracting buried minerals below the earth surface.

A Quarry is a site where material for construction purposes, such as construction sand, gravel, and quarry rock, is extracted from the earth.

Because the definition of ‘mineral’ in the Mineral Resources Act 1989 excludes most materials used for construction purposes, quarry (or extractive industry) Quarry Sites such as ours are approved and administered by local government under the Planning Act 2016.
